Certified Recovery Peer Specialist (CRPS)
Addiction and Peer Services Training

A Certified Recovery Peer Specialist (CRPS) is an individual who self-identifies as active in recovery from mental illness, substance abuse, and/or co-occurring disorders. To be certified, an individual must complete the CRPS specialized training program recognized by the State Florida Certification Board, which governs the state and mandates peer-to-peer services.
Certified Recovery Peer Specialists provide support and advocacy for individuals that suffer from mental illness, substance abuse, or co-occurring disorder. The CRPS providers assist individuals in achieving personal recovery goals through sharing lived experiences, goal setting, advocacy, resource management, and overall wellness. The peer support approach is nonclinical, focusing on health and recovery rather than illness or disability. The recovery process supports self-determination, empowerment, hope, inclusion, and desire to change.

Some components of the program include:

  • Strength-Based Approach

  • Right to Self-Determination and Collaboration

  • Building Hope

  • Shared Lived Experience

  • Empowerment

  • Respect

  • Integrity

  • Dignity

  • Advocacy

  • Inclusion

  • Wellness

  • Resiliency

Walking Together In Recovery Peer Support Training is certified by the Florida Credential Board.
