Jorge Orrantia is a computer scientist, civic hacker, entrepreneur, and community activist who has experienced firsthand many of the challenges that undocumented immigrants have to overcome to have the necessary freedom to achieve the American dream. Jorge arrived in the United States nearly 28 years ago. He soon found a passion for education and enrolled in Adult school to learn English. In 2012 he reached his educational goal. He was awarded a Master’s of Science in Computer Science from California State University, Northridge. Since then, he has being using his high-tech education to help others convince the U.S. Congress to pass immigration reform. Jorge has had a passion for technology and computer programming for over 25 years. He became an entrepreneur in 1996 when he co-founded 1stNetUSA, one of the first Internet Service Providers in the San Fernando Valley. It is here where he acquired a wide array of skills and experience much in use and demand today: Internet technologies: Unix, TCP/IP, client/server networking, security, FTP, SMTP, DNS, Java, XML, HTML, CSS, Javascript, etc.
